CATAS is a not-for-profit accounting firm that exists solely to serve churches and Christian-based charities throughout Aotearoa. Established in 2005 with support from the Baptist Union of New Zealand, the organisation was created to fill a growing need: helping churches and trusts navigate the increasingly complex world of financial reporting, payroll, and compliance. With a team of specialists spread across New Zealand, CATAS offers expert services in accounting, payroll, and bookkeeping, all tailored to the faith-based charitable sector. Their mission is simple but powerful: to lift the burden of financial admin so churches can focus on their mission.

The brief
Despite their strong track record, CATAS’s website was falling short. It wasn’t converting visitors into leads, the brand messaging was unclear and the visual design felt outdated. Calls to action were easy to miss, and the website didn’t adequately reflect the trustworthy, modern and cost-effective nature of their offering. They needed a complete overhaul to better connect with their primary audience – church administrators, trustees and pastors, many of whom are not tech-savvy and need a site that’s intuitive and easy to navigate. From accessibility for older users to search engine optimisation, improved storytelling, and new functionality like a blog/news section, CATAS wanted a site that didn’t just look good, but worked harder.

The solution
With this project, Webmad focused on strategic messaging and intuitive design to make it easy for visitors to understand CATAS’s value and take the next step. We refined CATAS’s messaging to make it clearer and more compelling, highlighting their specialist expertise in faith-based accounting, their competitive not-for-profit pricing and their trustworthy, long-standing team. We implemented a modern and vibrant design that balances warmth with professionalism and ensured accessibility compliance throughout. We also built in SEO best practices, added a news section for regular thought-leadership content. Most importantly, we designed every page with lead generation in mind, adding clear calls-to-action, user-friendly forms and integrated analytics for performance tracking. The result is a high-performing, accessible, and future-ready website that better reflects the credibility and mission of CATAS, while helping more churches find the support they need.
